Penrith continue to improve

Sunday 16th November 2014
U12`s Penrith 42 v Hawcoat 19
Team :- Dylan Aitken, Jacob Batey, Oliver Bibby, Harry Chambers, Luke Coggins (Capt), Declan Devaney, Llewelyn Giggs, Tom Hill, Elliot Judge, Spencer Lancaster, Samuel Nelson, Bailey Potts, Connor Robinson, Liam Scott, Mathew Thompson, Andy Walsh, Thomas Wear, Adam Wilson(man of the Match)
On a bright Sunday morning Penrith played host to Hawcoat who had made the journey north from Barrow in Furness. The game got underway with referee Malcolm Judge presiding, the visitors kicked off and the ball was taken by Oliver Bibby.
Both teams started well but Penrith showed they had the edge with better line discipline and passing, and it wasn’t long before they struck first, working the ball across the field and forwards to allow Connor Robinson space to cross the line and score.
The visitors not to be outdone started to pressurise hard when Penrith had the ball which resulted in some poor passing giving possession to Hawcoat. As they counterattacked, only a solid tackle from Oliver Bibby slowed their advance. A scrum followed with Hawcoat winning the ball freeing one of their forwards to charge towards the line and only a thumping tackle by Tom Hill brought him down and denied him the try.
A run forward by Connor moved the game back into the oppositions half and the game flowed backwards and forwards for a while with Hawcoat proving to be stronger in the scrums. Eventually Penrith began to get the upper hand firstly with a drive forward by Jacob Batey and another drive forward by man of the match Adam Wilson following a line out. This put Hawcoat nearly on their try line forcing an attempt at a clearance kick which was charged down by Tom Hill who gathered the ball and drove over the line to score Penrith`s second try. Penrith defended well until the end of the first period.
The second period saw Penrith kick off and both sides come out with passion. For Penrith Declan Devaney and Luke Coggins put some good work in. Hawcoat were penalised for high tackles giving a chance to Spencer Lancaster to make a fine solo run down the field and score Penrith`s third.
Tempers began to rise a little too much resulting in a player from both sides being sent off to cool down for five minutes. With Hawcoat in possession of the ball their only female player was fed the ball and put a fantastic run in down ¾ of the pitch, avoiding outstretched Penrith arms to score their first try.
With substitutions by Penrith things became a little disjointed and the visitors
could sense an opportunity and began to pressurise . Awarded a penalty about 10 metres from the try line they saw that Penrith were disorganised and took a quick tap and went for the line scoring unopposed.
The rest of the period saw both sides put some solid work in and both hold their ground.
The third and final period saw Hawcoat kick off with the ball being taken by Thomas Wear. Penrith finally exerted their dominance putting the visitors under pressure and with Penrith camped out on the try line it wasn’t long before Connor scored number four. Hawcoat weren`t finished just yet and exploiting a weakness in the Penrith defence rallied and scored their third.
In the final few minutes of the game both Oliver Bibby and Luke Coggins were rewarded for their hard work with tries resulting from fine jinking runs.
Adding the points up Penrith scored 42 points with 6 tries and 6 conversions all kicked by Connor Robinson and Hawcoat scored 19 points with 3 tries and 2 conversions.
Well done to both teams.
