Penrith overwhelm visitors

Sunday 15th March 2015
Penrith u12`s v Tarleton
Team:- Dylan Aitken, Jacob Batey, Oliver Bibby, Harry Chambers, Luke Coggins, Llewelyn Giggs, Tom Hill, Jonny Hope, Elliot Judge, Spencer Lancaster, Bailey Potts, Connor Robinson, Liam Scott, Mathew Thompson, Thomas Wear (Capt), Adam Wilson.
Sunday 15th March saw Penrith u12`s host an u12 team from Tarleton RUFC at Winters Park Penrith. They were in Cumbria on tour staying at Rookin House Troutbeck.
Captained by Thomas Wear, Penrith kicked off and made a steady start moving the ball out wide and putting the visitors under pressure in their own half, this forced a clearance kick to touch. Penrith were penalised early on for infringements but Tarleton were unable to capitalise on the possession of the ball.
Penrith proved stronger in the scrum and possession was won back allowing Oliver Bibby to open the scoring.
Once the team began to realise their opponents weren’t as fearsome as many a touring team, play began to open up, with both sides finding their legs. Thomas Wear made a strong run forward before being tackled.
Penrith remained organised with excellent passing putting Spencer Lancaster into space to score Penrith`s second.
Jacob Batey catching the restart kick took the ball forward forming a good maul before it was ripped by Tarleton. Play settled for a while with both sides attacking and Penrith, at times being slow to pick the loose ball up.
Just before the end of the period Oliver Bibby wriggled free and outpaced defenders to score in the far corner.
The visitors kicked off the second period and the fumbled catch was knocked on, resulting in a scrum. Possession was regained and Llewelyn Giggs made a good run forward.
With the backs working the ball across the field it wasn’t long before Liam Scott on the far wing received the ball and worked his way clear to score.
Following the restart Luke Coggins worked hard to make ground with a spirited run. Tarleton got back into the game with a lovely run forward which looked likely to result in a try but the player was brought down in a last ditch tackle.
Shortly after this Oliver Bibby was sent off by the referee for unsporting behaviour, which marred what had been up to that point a well contested game.
The visitors were awarded a penalty and the game settled down again. The stalemate was only broken just before the end of the period, when Jacob Batey scored to make it five tries to Penrith.
The third period saw the visitors succumb to a combination of a stronger and better organised Home team and perhaps too many late nights on tour. The tries started to come in rapid succession. Firstly with a strong determined run by Llewelyn Giggs, who is, as the season progresses growing in confidence.
Oliver Bibby scored another two tries before Elliot Judge made a dogged run forward and offloaded skilfully to Connor Robinson who had the resulting try disallowed by the referee. Jacob Batey nearly scored a second but was held up by strong Tarleton defensive work.
Connor Robinsons second run forward was rewarded with an undisputed try.
By this time Tarleton had all but given up, and putting a brave face on things turned the last few minutes into a bit of fun which Penrith entered into (not before Spencer and Connor scored two more tries)
After the match both teams had lunch in the club house and the visiting coaches awarded Luke Coggins a special trophy for showing the most sporting behaviour from the home team.
