Penrith played really well to win against Hawcoat and Millom

Sunday November 30th 2014
U12`s Penrith 47 v Millom 7
Penrith 28 v Hawcoat 7
Team :- Dylan Aitken, Jacob Batey, Oliver Bibby, Harry Chambers (capt), Luke Coggins, Tom Hill, Declan Parkinson, Bailey Potts, Connor Robinson, Liam Scott, Mathew Thompson, Andy Walsh, Thomas Wear (man of the Match), Adam Wilson.
The last Sunday in November saw the sun shine on the Penrith u12 team as they travelled to Barrow to play both Millom and Hawcoat.
The first match of the morning saw hosts Hawcoat take on Millom and run out winners.
Penrith then took to the field against Millom, With Millom kicking off. Penrith conceded an early scrum but the forward pack showed their strength and discipline in the scrums to win the ball nearly every time.
With Penrith looking to score early it wasn’t long before Andy Walsh seized his chance and a fine solo run saw him open the scoring.
Another scrum saw Connor Robinson pass out to the backs who played their part smoothly, passing down the line and releasing Chambers on the wing to score.
Millom countered but solid defence especially from Bailey Potts, with tackle after tackle eventually saw Penrith camped near to Millom`s try line. First Ollie Bibby touched down only to be ruled short of the line by the ref, and then a very messy maul fought its way over the line for a try to be awarded to Penrith.
Just before half time Robinson popped number four over the line.
The second half saw Penrith kick off and the game settled down. The referee had some issues with players not releasing or rolling away in the rucks and the resulting scrums were a pleasure to watch as the Penrith pack with Thomas Wear (man of the Match) at its heart drove forward, Pushing Millom off the ball and winning possession. This rewarded Jacob Batey with the ball and space to cross the line and score.
Millom counter attacked, and scored a deserved try of their own.
Penrith built up their momentum again moving steadily forwards until Tom Hill seized his chance picking the ball out of a ruck near the line and crossing to touch down.
Just before full time Chambers used his speed to rocket down the line and score a final try for Penrith.
Final score Penrith 7 tries and 6 conversions 47 points. Millom 1 try and 1 conversion 7 points.
After a short break Penrith then played hosts, Hawcoat who were keen to avenge their recent defeat at Winters Park.
Andy Walsh nearly opened the scoring for Penrith with a superb interception and strong run but was brought down short of the line.
Hawcoat Counter attacked putting Penrith under pressure and despite resolute tackling by Penrith moved the ball up to within 5 metres of the try line. The ball went out of play and Hawcoat opened the scoring from the resulting lineout.
Luke Coggins gathered the kick and made a lot of ground before being tackled. Again Penrith dominated the scrum driving forward despite Hawcoat having a heavier pack.
The Penrith backs played some excellent rugby drawing the defenders in before passing, eventually allowing Chambers to equalise for Penrith.
The second half saw Penrith Kick off and chase the ball, and they were rewarded with a scrum 10 metres from the line. Keeping possession Robinson spotted the gap and dodged defenders to score.
It then became a kicking game as both sides strived to find a way past each other’s defence. The stalemate was only broken by another scrum just short of the line, When Hill was unleashed with the ball to force his way over the line, spinning free from defenders.
With only minutes left on the clock Penrith continued to mount the pressure and were rewarded with a final try scored by Robinson.
Final score Penrith 4 tries and 4 conversions 28 points Hawcoat 1 try and 1 conversion 7 points.
With two games to go before the Christmas break, Penrith can take great pride in the way they played today. The forwards in their tackling, and the strength of the scrum and the backs in their discipline and passing.
