Whether it was half term hangover or trick or treat tiredness, Penrith were beaten by a Vale of Lune team, despite going ahead in the first period with a two tries to zero lead.

Tries from Oliver Boyes and Jacob early on and late in the first period put Penrith on the front foot, both from good passing moves through the backs. Hard fought rucks and mauls during this first session seemed to sap the energy from both teams. Penrith had the possession but found any breakthrough difficult.

Second period continued as the first with Penrith trying to penetrate a strong defence but being pushed to touch or held up on several occasions.

The damage was mostly down to not being able stop their Number 5, who ran in several of the Vale Tries from distance.

An intercept try by Vale of Lune triggered a large change in fortune for the two teams. Despite a good tackle from Penrith defence on the Vale number 5 after a run from inside his own half, he was allowed to get to his feet and go over. Missed tackles and lost ball gifted a third try and a fourth was ruled out by a final forward pass.

Hoping to regroup for the third period several attempts by Penrith fell just short. Both teams had efforts held up. Two tries from reliable Ollie B were cancelled out by three long run ins from the Vale Number 5.

6:4 down with one final period things looked promising when Alec went over. After this Vale took control. A combination of very slow play , missed tackles and Vale's ever present Number 5 allowed the opposition to score four more times before the final whistle put a stop to a disappointing last period.

Final score a loss by ten tries to five.

Every great team has their season blip so let's hope this is ours and better thing to come in the run up to Christmas.
