Cockermouth 0 vs 9 Penrith

Penrith team,
David Boyce, Oliver Boyes, Diarmid Bradon, Luke Coulston, Harry Dodd, Jacob Fidler, Louie Johnston, Lewis Newton, Sam Reay, Alec Robinson, Ben Miller, Archie Thurrell, Max Blundell,

Having been blessed with favourable weather conditions since the start of the season unprepared we arrived in Cockermouth in wind and driving rain.

Hot coffee and bacon butties only gave short respite before braving the elements to witness another great performance by the team in adverse conditions.

A mix of U11 and U12 teams from Cockermouth took on a Penrith team out to make amends for two defeats in previous games.

In the first period after sustained pressure from Penrith, Max went over in the corner from a tight angle and then again under the posts with a sidestepping run.
A minutes silence for Rememberance Sunday was observed admirably despite driving rain before the game started up again and Penrith missed out twice just short of the try line.

Second period Diarmid drove over early on then Ollie B scored an excellent long distance try running straight up the wing. All the play was coming from the Penrith lads and all the penetration but no more scoring.

Into the third period and the weather deteriorating further Penrith managed to put together a series of phases ending in Diarmid taking the initiative and crashing over for a try. Despite several stoppages by the referee and ever decreasing conditions, handling was very good and an excellent pass from Lewis who helped orchestrate the overall performance set up Ollie B for another score.

Final period Penrith's dominance continued. Diarmid scored his third try running from half way making amends for his fumble short of the line previously. Further forward pressure, and Luke came up with the ball and went over. Finally Ollie B scored his third which was the final play of the day as children and parents started to run for the sanctuary of cars and the clubhouse.

A much better performance all round boding well for the run into Christmas. Should we do a rain dance for the next few weeks?
