U12’s/U11’s Upper Eden 14 vs. Penrith 50

Penrith travelled to Upper Eden with a Penrith squad full of confidence after winning their previous four games. Both sides fielded combined Under 12/11’s in a match divided into three 15 minute periods played on a heavy pitch. Penrith started the game with strong forward play against a physically matched Upper Eden team but Penrith, starting to develop as a team as the season progresses, played quick ball across the backs that secured field advantage throughout the three periods of the match. Upper Eden was tough in their tackling and this should be commended, as should their positive approach throughout the game, but they could not prevent Penrith from running in eight tries. Joe Connelly, Penrith’s leading try scorer, notched a hat trick of tries with typical strength and speed, with fellow backs Alex Verrall and Scott Bradley each adding well taken tries. The forwards also got on the score sheet, Max Lancaster with a well taken try in the corner and Thomas Maund showing his strength when taking his try with four Upper Eden players hanging off his shirt. Nathan Fidler converted four tries, demonstrating his prowess with the boot and the remaining conversion was taken by Michael Dunne who has just returned from injury. The entire Penrith squad played with spirit, determination and for the majority match demonstrated a progressive improvement in their technical ability.
