Penrith hosted Wigton with both teams fielding combined U12s and U11s for three 15 min periods on a heavy Winters Park pitch. The first period saw Penrith dominate the scrum, as they then did for the entire match, with strong forward play against a larger Wigton pack. Penrith used quick ball across the backs allowing a well taken try by David King, subsequently converted to conclude an excellent opening 15 minutes. The second period allowed Penrith to rotate their large squad and Penrith matched Wigton with further solid displays by the forwards and quick ball across the backs. Wigton concluded the second period with a converted try. The final 15 minute period with both sides level was a credit to both teams who played good rugby on the heavy pitch. Penrith’s confidence, growing in each match, was evident throughout the match and to demonstrate this David King weaved through the Wigton defence to get his brace and secure a well-deserved victory for Penrith.
