The club has been aware for a while that Beef Robinson wanted to step
down as head coach and concentrate on just the coaching element of the
job. With this in mind the powers that be have been keen to put
together a sound structure to take the club forward and to do it in
double quick time so everyone involved know where they are and that
everything is set for next season.
To that end the club are pleased to announce that with immediate effect
Nigel Beaty is to be the new Director of Rugby, this is not a coaching
role and this week Bill Laidlaw has been appointed to head up the
coaching team along with Beef Robinson and Phil Graham. As anyone who
knows Beaty will know he will leave no stone unturned to put a first
rate team together and there will be further specialist appointments as
the close season goes on.
Of the new head coach Nigel says "Bill is one of the best technical
coaches in the area, his involvement with England Youth squads means he
has the latest technical and tactical knowledge. A backs specialist he
is the ideal person to complement Beef Robinson which was important
when we were looking for additional coaches. I wanted to build on Beefs
work this season. They have worked well together as coaches previously
on the Newcastle Falcons/RFU Schools of Rugby scheme"
Club pressman Mike Sanderson pointed out how much the club appreciate
the work Beef has done this past season. “He has kept us at Level 5 in
difficult circumstances, won the County Cup again for us and a measure
of what he has done is the number of men Nigel thinks it will take to
do the same job.”
