GAV CARTMEL RE -SIGNS FOR PENRITH

EXCELLENT PRE SEASON NEWS AS CARMEL RETURNS

Penrith are delighted to announce Gavin Cartmel has re signed for the
club for the forthcoming season, He first played for the club in the
back end of the 08/09 season immeadiatly following his seventeenth
birthday. He then played every game of the following two seasons being
the top try scorers both times and ended up with a playing record of
playing 61 games and scoring 37 tries before moving to Fylde last
season.
Since moving to Fylde he has been dogged by injury and bad luck and in
attempt to get his rugby career back on the road with the least amount
of fuss is going reabilitate at Penrith. Last year he picked up an
injury pre season, then badly damaged his knee after playing only five
games and has since sustained another minor knee problem.
1st team manager Mike Sanderson expressed the lift this has given the
whole club. "Although we are very pleased to have Gavin back, his
record speaks for itself, you have to feel desperately sorry for the
young man. He made the break from his home club and got himself into a
excellent side two levels higher. I can tell you he didn't just scrape
into the side either, a few of us went down to watch him and he looked at ease at that level and I have no doubt in my mind he was certainly going places."

Gavin's quote:----

I am pleased to be re-joining my home town team. I’m naturally
disappointed I won’t be returning to Fylde RUFC for the forthcoming
season after breaking into the first team but a long term knee problem
has dictated the move. Penrith can offer me the physiotherapy and
conditioning I need, without the travelling commitments, to get back
playing again.

Having only played 5 full games of rugby in the past 14 months and not
once since December, I’m desperate to get back into things and helping
this Penrith team to build on an under-par season last time out. With
the new coaching and management structure in place I can see no reason
why we can’t finish as the highest placed Cumbrian team in the RFU
playing structure for the first time in Penrith’s history. The Cumbrian
derby matches are the two matches I am especially looking forward too.
Knowing some of the players and coaches from Kendal, everyone will be
keen for bragging rights in the bar afterwards.
