Following their promotion, Penrith RUFC’s First team have been placed in the RFU Regional 1 North West League where they will meet some previous adversaries as well as some new ones.
The stand out fixtures are against local rivals Kendal who are the only other Cumbrian team in the League. New opponents who we have never met before are: Anselmians; Wirral; Leek from Staffordshire; Sandbach and Macclesfield.
The loss of last seasons local derby’s are therefore compensated by a mixture of clubs who, like ourselves, have been promoted or have played at this higher level for a number of years. It will be a major challenge but one which the players and coaching team will no doubt rise to.
The Second XV remain in the Counties1 Cumbria League which has now been extended to 13 teams including Carlisle Firsts, Keswick2’s and Windermere .
The full line up is: Carlisle; Creighton; Egremont; Hawcoat Park; Keswick 2; Millom; St Benedict’s; Silloth; Whitehaven; Wigton; Windermere and Workington.
The actual fixture dates have not yet been announced but one thing we can guarantee is there should be a game of first class rugby at Winters Park virtually every weekend through the season.
