Entering the Cumbria 1 League

Penrith Second team eventually got their hands on the Cumbria Shield last Friday at the Men’s Senior presentation night as winners of the Cumbria 2 league competition.
It was an eventful season, interrupted throughout by a number of opposition cry -offs but at the end of it the Seconds were ahead of rest with a decent winning record and minimal number of losses.
Next season see’s a big step up with entry to the Cumbria 1 League which is populated by first teams in the county such as Upper Eden, Cockermouth, St Benedicts and Wigton. All of these games are likely to be played on a Saturday thus ensuring the likelihood that every week at Winters Park will feature in essence, a first team quality level game.
The decision to enter the Cumbria 1 league has not been taken lightly and the Club is launching a recruitment drive to increase the availability of players , support staff and sponsors.
It is hoped that some of the recent over-age Colts players will transfer to senior rugby and players who have taken time out will return to play at this higher standard .
Touch rugby continues on a Monday night with pre-season training commencing in early July. Anyone who is interested in joining any of our teams, in any capacity should contact our Senior men’s Team Managers or Coaches.
