1st girls match proves to be a hit

Over the last 3 months Penrith Rugby Club have been trialling a Rugby Girls section. It had proven to be a hit and for the last month they have averaged 20+ at training! It is aimed at girls from year 7-year 12 and training takes place on a Wednesday night 4.30-6.00. On Saturday they played their first game when they took on Millom u15s. ...
Both sides were embarking on their first season and although a lot of the girls were nervous they played superbly. The game was played in thirds and after the first two the sides were about even with lead swapping regularly between the teams. At the close of play Penrith ran out eventual winners 55-35. Penrith showed great pace and strength out wide with Tara Simpson-Sullivan and Emma Kellet scoring a lot of the tries for Penrith. In the forwards there were impressive performances from Suzie Graham, Evie Fleming and Shannon Iceton. Player of the match was Emma Kellet.
