Penrith RUFC hosted the fourth Cumbria Girls festival of rugby on Sunday and it was a great sight as all 3 pitches were in use with over 140 girls in action.
The Club received excellent feedback on the organisation, facilities, food , refreshments and warm welcome to all visiting teams.
The Penrith U18 squad comprising Alyssa Robinson, Rai Broomhall, Anna Tompkins, Megan Phillips-Craig, Chloe Thompson, Rachel Huschka, Emma Campbell (capt), Holly Veitch, Poppy Dooley, Josie Scrimgour and Ella Fahy played three matches the first two 10-a-side, 7 minutes each way and a final game where players from Kirkby Lonsdale joined up for a 15 minutes of a 15-a-side game..
In the first match the Penrith team after a slow start ran out comfortable winners against a scratch side made up of Cockermouth and Kirkby Lonsdale players. In the second match against Netherhall the Penrith side seemed to lose their confidence and lost without scoring.
In the final game played on the full pitch after an unsteady start in which they fell behind to an early try the strengthened Penrith team rallied well with tries from Josie Scrimgour, Holly Veitch and Rachel Husschka keeping the combined Netherhall, Kirkby and Cockermouth team to the single score.
Particular thanks to Cumbria RU Society referee Martin Maughan.
