The long season travelling to find tough fixtures and work on the training field came together as the girls played some of the best rugby of the season. Many thanks to Keswick for hosting after our planned opposition pulled out and the excellent referee Tim Green.
The defence press and dominant tackles kept the home team from getting close to scoring and in attack the passing was much improved with some flowing rugby for 7 tries from Caitlin Padgett (4) Leila Robinson, Evie Holme and Katie Smith.
Amber Beaty kicked off and a fine chase forcing a turnover set the tone for the match. Penrith had several good attacks keeping the ball and moving it wide well. Keswick broke out for full back Sofia Hellevik to make an important tackle.
The scrum was on top all game even without regular prop Chloe Brown.
From a dominant scrum the backs moved the ball well with centres Leila and Evie giving Caitlin space to show her pace and run in round to the posts. Allowing Penny Robinson the opportunity to convert which she did to the delight of her team mates!
Amber turned over the ball well at the tackle area as Keswick made ground, scrum half Charlotte Harnwell passed well to Lili T-P who made a good run but unfortunately the ball went loose otherwise Caitlin would have had a chance of a long run in.
Another good scrum with the front row of Neve Winder, Jess Hodgson and Lili T-P dominating saw a good 30m run from Leila with Evie in support then Charlotte on hand to continue but Keswick bundled Evie Wallace into touch 10m out.
The girls were dominating the breakdown and moving the ball well, the backs slick passing to Caitlin to go down the wing and this time with a side step to beat the cover and score with Penny converting for 14-0.
There was some defensive work to do as Keswick came back, Charlotte as usual to the fore with Penny, Neve, Lil T-P and Matilda McTear tackling well.
The next score was from good scrum ball with Amber trying a cross kick the ball was low and bouncing but well taken by winger Caitlin at pace she stepped inside and an excellent cover tackle stopped her scoring but she off loaded superbly to the supporting Leila to run in under the posts for Penny to convert and 21-0 lead at half time.
Dominant tackles and rucking were targets set at the half time chat and Lily Salmon led the way with a superb tackle, Charlotte was next to gain a turnover giving Leila who had one of her best games to break 20m, several good rucks continued the attack before a pass to ground denied a try but not for long as the pressure continued, Amber was running well off the ball, looping to get a pass from Leila, Lily Salmon made good ground before passing to Caitlin to just squeeze in at the corner and 26-0.
Then from a scrum fly half Amber spotted space on the blindside and took the pass from Charlotte to make 30m, she kept the ball alive to flanker Katie Smith who drove strongly to score with Penny converting for 33-0.
The breakdown work continued to improve with back row Katie being her usual menace. The final score came from good continuity as Evie took a cut pass to make ground, the ball was worked right to Lili T-P who cut back inside , the ball was retained and fed right to Evie Holme to score for 38-0.
Amber then worked the blindside chipping the ball over the defence and it came to Lily Salmon who made a good run and kept the ball in play with an overhead pass which bounced nicely for Caitlin in support to run in from 40m just outpacing the cover and 43-0.
Keswick had their moments, Issy Green showed her pace to get round the defence but Leila made a determined run to cover tackle. Penrith attacked again Amber then Matilda carrying well for Charlotte to drive over but she was denied a deserved try as held up.
