Fine home performance for U16 Girls

Fine home performance for U16 Girls

Nigel Beaty6 Nov 2022 - 19:19

Penrith hosted a joint squad from Tynedale and Novos scoring 4 tries by half time before rotating the squad for the 2nd half and added a further 2 tries with one conceded.

The opening exchanges were even before Penrith began to dominate, their ball retention was better and strong defence created turnovers to regain possession. The opening try came from strong running gaining ground , good recycling saw the hard working hooker Maebh McGrath score. The 2nd try came from a scrum, Charlotte Harnwell exploited some weak defence left of a scrum to give wing Caitlin Padgett a chance to show her pace to run in from 60m. The forwards carried regularly making ground but were held up over the line several times. From one of the goal line drop outs Cara Hind passed well to Lili Thompson- Parry who timed her pass well to put centre Skye Smith in space to run in and score.
They were soon back in Tyne/Novos territory with No8 Penny Robinson making several strong carries and a fine 30m break by Amber Beaty before Cara ran strongly and reached over the line to score her first ever try.
Half time saw several changes with players in new positions to challenge them.
The away team scored a fine individual try running down the wing from 70m to score.
Prop Chloe Brown was enjoying a run out at No8 showing her pace to make ground from the scrum, centre Evie Holme was leading the way in metres carried and took play into the 22m area before Charlotte spotted a gap round the ruck to dive over.
The defence was being tested but their were fine tackles by Neve Winder, Evie, Leila Robinson and Skye to deny scores.
Amber kicked well and was up to earn a turnover. Eimhear McGrath made several weaving runs to get into the opposition half, strong carries including new player Ella Barnett got then close before Caitlin now at No9 was on hand to exploit the blind side to burst through and score her 2nd.
Tyne/Novos kept working hard and finished on top but were unable to cross for a try against a determined home defence with Penny and Maebh gaining turnovers.

Thanks to Referee Craig Tyson who did an excellent job!
