After two defeats Penrith had a welcome away bonus point win at Eccles, they had expected the home side to provide sterner opposition on the back of their first win of the season but it proved to be a pretty routine win.
They took the lead as early as the 3rd minute when Kiwi flanker Tama Toomata took the ball at the tail of a lineout on his own 10m line and ran 60m to score. Darren Lee profited when a long 22 drop out was mishandled and he was first on the scene to snap up the ball and run in the try.
Ed Swale was next on the scoresheet when he took a quick lineout 5m out and got the ball back from Pale Tuilagi to cross in the corner. Kris Bratton added the bonus try with a searing break wide out before the home side broke their duck with a catch and drive from a lineout 5m out. Penrith extended their lead with a Jamie McNaughton try just before the break to turn round 31-5 to the good.
The second half saw Penrith score tries through Ben Littleton, JJ Key and a second by Bratton. Their performance was much improved as they cut out a lot of the unforced errors that have plagued their game in recent weeks but they did not curb their ability to concede penalties with 22 being awarded against them in the 80 minutes. They will have to address that part of their game before facing league leaders Birkenhead Park in their next game.
