A learning day!
A squad of 13 missing some of the more experienced players had the challenge of playing a strong, powerful and experienced Ryton team. Ryton are one of if not the strongest sides in the North East and they lived upto their billing as they ran in tries at regular intervals but the Penrith girls never gave up.
The Penrith girls tried their best in defence to bring down their bigger opponents, when successful Ryton had more strong runners in support to score. In attack Penrith put together some fine attacking plays but the Ryton cover defence was impressive denying any scores.
The one try was well deserved with Lily Thompson - Parry running from her own half, beating several defenders with footwork and pace to score – well deserved as she caused Ryton well organised defence problems all game.
Ryton were making dominant tackles so trying to play going backwards was difficult.
However there were some fine runs by Sofia Helevik, Lexie Clark, Evie Holme, Harriett Saxon and Capt for the day Jess Graham.
Scarlett Turnbull was busy in support of breaks and making tackles.
It was however defence that was the biggest test , Ryton played impressively running strongly with support - there were some excellent tackles and brave attempted tackles from Leila Robinson, Sofia, Jess, Lili, Aimee Powell – Currie and Harriett.
Keira Robinson showed her strength in support of tacklers ripping the ball and Mia tidied up and caught well at full back.

Next week the girls have a festival at Carlisle – Ryton will be one of the teams attending so hopefully the girls will have learned a lot from today and be ready for the challenge.
