Our large squad enabled us to 'loan' players to opposing teams to enable bigger numbers to be on the field and to ensure everyone got plenty of game time, whilst still being able to have Penrith 'substitutes' for each game
Squad - Emilia Stamper, Paige Wilson, Tallulah Salmon, Tallulah Longrigg, Summer Cleminson, Lissee Hodgson, Chelsea keeley, Leonie Douglas, Millie Anderson, Erin Birkett, Bianca Riciv, Chloe Whitton, Katie Holloway, Agata Taikubus , Eleanor Brook, Lara Jones,
Game 1 Redcar Won 10-2 (Tries Lissee 4, Paige 4, Chloe, Agata)
Good lively start, keeping ball alive well with strong direct running from Chloe and Agata and wider longer range scores from Paige and Lissee. Some great tackling from Erin and Agata helped stop the Redcar attacks
Game 2 - Stockton Lost 4-2 (Tries Lissee 2)
A sleepy start after the highs of the first win - credit to Stocktons direct running to put us on the back foot. However once woken up Penrith managed to fight back into the game and finish with 2 tries of their own
Game 3 - Whitley Bay Won 11-1 (tries - Lissee 4, Paige 2, Bianca 2,Summer , Emilia, Millie)
Back firing from the outset for another good win against a Whitley Bay team who never gave up or stopped smiling. Lots of positives attacking directly and further out - good support try from Emilia and Millies tip-toe sprint down the touch line being highlights. Bianca made typical strong long distance runs scoring twice.
Game 4 Gateshead Won 3-2 (tries Katie Emilia Paige)
A much tighter affair due to the good tackling of Gateshead, good grit shown by the Penrith girls to take a narrow win as everyone started to tire
Game 5 Darlington Mowden Park Won 5-1 (Lara 2, Millie, Paige, Chelsea)
DMP were well organised and strong ball in hand and in the tackle, so a pleasing result. Great first try of the game from Chelsea with a pick up and go from the ruck, followed by more strong running from Lara and Paige. Millie crossed the line to finish off the days scoring.
After food and chatting with our hosts, to whom we are very grateful, we made our way back (via a well deserved ice cream stop!) to Penrith. Not even the 'music' on the bus prevented a few sleepy teammates (Lissee, Tallualh S) from catching a few minutes shut-eye!
A long and enjoyable day and one in which the whole squad deserve credit not only for some good play but also sportsmanship and support of each other in some tough games.
Well done to Lissee named player of the festival.
Big thanks to coaches Steve and Paul for organising and mini bus driving, Oh and the ice creams!
