Penrith travelled over with a squad of 13 for an evening game against local friends and rivals Keswick for the 4th and last time this season. We are lucky to have another flourishing girls set up so close such that we can have competitive games from which both clubs always benefit.

4 quarters were played of 12 per side allowing changes to overcome the inevitable knocks of the hard ground this time of year.

The hosts started the strongest, with quick handling allowing Penrith to be stretched wide and concede a couple of unanswered tries. Penrith's sleepy start came to an end just before the end of the 1st quarter with a try from Paige. This galvanised the attitude and performance from Penrith who stepped up the tackling and counter rucking - disturbing Keswick at every opportunity and making good ground. Initial direct running and effective rucking produced more ball for Penrith who were able to enjoy long spells of possession.

The game really developed into a tough affair with both side making good defensive shapes and executing strong tackles. The final three quarters saw the score remain level in each - each team always posing a threat ball in hand.

As usual a few things to work on - but overall a really good performance in terms of attitude and intensity which we can be proud of. A great effort from all in the squad, the majority of whom had their best game of the season so far which is very promising. It is certain that both teams feel like they have been in a tough enjoyable game, which is exactly what we are after.

The evening was finished off with chips in the sunshine sat in Keswick stands. Keswick ran out close winners with the score at 8-5. There were many comments from parents and other onlookers that a good show had been put on by both sides.
