Carlisle U15 - 12. Penrith U15 - 50

Sunday 25th at Carlisle RUFC
Carlisle U15 12 - 50 Penrith U15
Penrith U15 travelled to Carlisle to play their county cup quarter final match on a fairly bright Sunday morning with the only downside being a pitch with a dampening of dew on , which would possibly create tricky handling conditions.

However , both teams got on with the task in hand and played the game with great width. The first 10 minutes saw a stalemate with both teams going full tilt at each other up the middle , testing each others weaknesses before Penrith managed to score near the posts with some great pick and go’s from the forwards with Henry Strong getting on the scoresheet first. The try was converted by Joe Cox . Carlisle upped their game and came back at Penrith , but a turnover saw them pass the ball out to the powerful and speedy left winger ( Jack McCall ) who raced down his wing from his own half to score in the corner . This seemed to deflate the Carlisle team and Penrith scored another try with Herbie Birkbeck crashing his way through . Again converted by Joe Cox . Carlisle responded well and took advantage of some poor Penrith tackling scoring a converted try under the posts to get themselves back into the game. Penrith looked a little rattled but managed to finish the half off with an excellent team try scored by Louie Eyrl.

Half time score Carlisle 7 - 24 Penrith . The second half was very much like the first, with both teams working hard in defence and attack , but Penrith were dominating up front and scored another forwards try through Jack Gibson breaking blind off a 5m scrum , converted by Joe Cox . Penrith’s backs wanted in on the party and scored another 2x 40m tries through Ewan Gill and Jack McCall , with Joe cox converting one of them . Carlisle did manage to score another try which was thoroughly deserved as they never game up all game and kept coming back at Penrith . The icing on the cake was still to come with Man of the Match Herbie Birkbeck scoring another try converted by Joe Cox to bring up the half century of points with Penrith running out comfortable winners on the day .
