Penrith entertained Vale of Lune at Winters Park in a ‘game of two halves’.

Penrith started the game applying strong pressure to Vale of Lune in their 22, and had it not been for handling mistakes then Penrith may have recorded the first points of the game. However, Vale of Lune scored the first converted try of the game, following quick ball across the backs. Penrith forwards won every scrum and overpowered their opponents in the first half and this was mirrored for the majority in the second half. The consistently impressive Joe Connolly scored Penrith’s opening try of the first half, followed by an equally impressive try by David King. Penrith were unlucky to go into half-time trailing 21-12, but a number of handling errors and slow ball across the backs attributed to the failure to record further points.

During the second-half Penrith forwards bossed their opponents, but again slow ball across the backs, missed tackles, combined with handling errors added to Penrith’s woes with Vale of Lune recording a further 29 points. Joe Connolly added a try for Penrith and there was a hint of a comeback at one stage, but it wasn’t to be.

Penrith’s Man of the Match Thomas Maund came from the forwards who were consistently dominant. Thomas showing increasing confidence following his recovery from a broken leg was awarded the Man of the Match.
