Penrith Under 13’s make it 3 wins out of 3

On Sunday 9 October the Penrith under 13’s played host to a well drilled Keswick team. It was agreed that the match would consist of 3 periods of 20 minutes each to allow all the boys in the large Penrith squad plenty of game time.

Penrith started strongly in the first period and did not allow Keswick to settle into the game and after only a few minutes Patrick Noutch scored the first try for the home team. This was quickly followed by a try from David Whittle which was converted by Alex Pantechis. As in previous weeks, the Penrith forwards battled extremely well and delivered plenty of ball to the backs which allowed them the opportunity to run at the Keswick defence. The ball was won for Penrith’s third try by the forwards and it was then passed through a number of players hands in the back line before Joseph Tidmarsh crossed over in the corner. The first period closed with a further try from Patrick Noutch.

The changes that were made by Penrith for the next period disrupted their flow of play and Keswick took full advantage by putting the home team on the back foot. Despite a strong effort by the Penrith team Keswick began to get into their stride and managed to score three tries of their own, two of which were converted.

The teams therefore went into the third quarter with the scores relatively close but it was Penrith that started more strongly in this period and Alex Pantechis scored a try to extend the lead. As the match continued the Penrith players started to find more opportunity to run with the ball and several players made good ground for the home team until David Whittle was able to take advantage of one of these moves to touch the ball down again. Despite good tackling in defence from the Keswick team the final try of the match came from a strong surge over the line from close range by Thomas Graves and Myles Harrop added the conversion.

This 39-19 victory can be put down to another good performance by the whole Penrith squad who all tackled well and supported each other throughout the game. The forwards showed great strength and determination in the rucks and mauls, winning plenty of ball and the backs demonstrated quick hands and feet as they put together some good passing moves.

The Penrith squad consisted of: Patrick Bennett, Lewis Birkbeck, Jake Borgogno, Thomas Broadhead, Greg Cameron, Adam Cutting, Syd Ellwood, Alex Fawcett, Euan Gillespie, Thomas Graves, Nathan Hamilton, Myles Harrop, Harry Holme, Ellis Hook, Adam Howe, Jack Huddart, Matthew McFadden, Will Melling, Patrick Noutch, Alex Pantechis, Freddie Pritchard, Kyle Ryder, Keegan Shaw, Joseph Tidmarsh, Liam Trevaskis, Fergus Vecqueray, Lewis Watt, David Whittle.
