Penrith Under 13’s get into their stride

The second game in a double fixture for the Penrith under 13 squad on Sunday 6th November, saw them take on their hosts Millom.

After just a short rest the Penrith team started their second game of the day as strongly as they finished their first and from the start put the home side under pressure. However, despite several attempts to cross the try line the Millom defence kept Penrith at bay and after picking up the ball in the loose it was Millom who made an opportune break to score the first try of the match. The Penrith players continued to play well though and were justly rewarded with a try by Patrick Noutch, which he also converted. Almost immediately after this another score by Myles Harrop established a lead for the visitors but a converted try from Millom brought the scores level once again. The Penrith backs looked very dangerous on the attack and some strong running enabled Freddie Pritchard and then Patrick Noutch to touch down to extend Penrith’s lead but Millom kept themselves in the game with another break-away try before half time.

The second half saw the Penrith team really get into their stride and the forwards in particular all played extremely well to consistently win the ball. The pack began to dominate the rucks and mauls, driving forward at the Millom defence and won several opposition scrums. From the platform that the forwards created the backs demonstrated some slick passing and strong running to attack their opponents and David Whittle was released to score a try which he converted himself. Strong support play from Thomas Graham saw him add a further try for Penrith as they began to stretch their lead, although Millom never gave up and continued to make solid tackles. As the game moved towards the final whistle powerful running saw Penrith score two more tries, firstly from Keegan Shaw and then from David Whittle to give the away team a 44-17 victory.

By making use of the large squad the Penrith team was able to continue playing at a good pace through to the end of the game to continue the positive momentum they have set so far this season.

The Penrith squad consisted of: Patrick Bennett, Lewis Birkbeck, Jake Borgogno, Thomas Broadhead, Greg Cameron, Jake Edmondson, Syd Ellwood, Euan Gillespie, Thomas Graham, Thomas Graves, Nathan Hamilton, Myles Harrop, John Hartley, Harry Holme, Ellis Hook, Adam Howe, Jack Huddart, Matthew McFadden, Will Melling, Patrick Noutch, Freddie Pritchard, Kyle Ryder, Keegan Shaw, Joseph Tidmarsh, Liam Trevaskis, Fergus Vecqueray, Lewis Watt, David Whittle.
