Seconds sunk in the Lake

With the Second teams intended opponents unable to fulfill the original fixture, a previously cancelled game against Windermere was rearranged. The Penrith team arrived at their picturesque ground with a somewhat depleted squad, the original numbers being decimated by unavailability's and the demands of the First team.
Windermere dropped down from the Cumbria 1 league this year but still have a more than useful team, particularly with impressive half backs, and it was them that ultimately led them to a victory by 41 points to 5.
The score however doesn’t do justice to the effort and commitment of the bare sixteen Penrith lads, a third of who had surpassed their half century in years. Their cause wasn’t helped by injuries firstly to Chris Chapman followed quickly by Jimmy Hall and then Tom Hodges. At half time the score was even at 5-5 with Penrith unfortunate not to score just before half time.
The second half started with a bang when a monster kick from Kyle Ryder from his 22 was hacked on and followed up by John Jenkinson into the Windermere dead ball area-unfortunately the referee declined the touchdown and the opportunity was lost. That was as close as the visitors could get to the opposition try line and eventually given the combination of superior numbers and age advantage Windermere were able to exploit the wide-open spaces and scored at regular intervals to put the game to bed.
There were some positive aspects from the Penrith team; their heads never went down, they kept going to the end and there were some cracking performances from Dan and Will Morgan, making welcome returns, Bailey Potts and Dan Moreland.
This was a temporary setback and the coaching and management team of Chris Watson and Dennis Bibby are confident that given a full squad they will be more than a match for any team in the League.
