LOCKER ROOM CHATS: WITH JON FELL

Last week Josh Dowson nominated fellow 1st XV player, Jon Fell to be the next to take part in our locker room chats.

We kick off with some rugby related questions:

1. Who is your favourite sports hero and why?

“Jonny Wilkinson, he inspired a generation of rugby players. I can remember trying to drop kick a ball for weeks in the garden, still haven’t mastered it yet!”

2. What are three reasons you like being part of a sports team?

“* The camaraderie with teammates and everyone involved with the team and all the friends you make through sport.
* The competition, mainly winning!
* The social side of sport and beers after the game, especially after a good result on the road.”

3. What are your favourite rugby union and rugby league teams?
“My favourite rugby union teams are our “local” northern clubs Newcastle falcons and Sale Sharks and I don’t follow much rugby league but was looking forward to seeing how Sonny Bill Williams would do for Toronto before COVID ended their season.”

4. What would you say to someone considering joining Penrith RUFC to convince them?

“Go for it, you have nothing to lose. Amazing facilities, great people and plenty of opportunities. Just don’t get stuck next to Gandhi in the bar after your debut.”

5. What is your favourite rugby related memory?

“Playing at Twickenham for QEGS in the Daily Mail Vase final is a special memory. I have great memories of that season playing rugby for school, Penrith Colts and Penrith 1st Team with loads of talented players and great friends, including some of the ‘Magnificent Seven’. The recent Cumbria Cup win is also a massive highlight, you don’t get to play in many cup finals so it was nice to round that season off with some silverware.”

Get to know Jon, quick fire questions:

6. At which store would you like to max out your credit card?

“More likely to be my wife maxing out the credit card, the number of weekly Zara deliveries is scary!”

7. What was your favourite TV show growing up?
“Any classics from the 90’s, Kenan and Kel, Wacky races, Gladiators. I’m more of a strictly man these days, which is where I’ve taken most of my inspiration for my own moves and I’m glad to see it hasn’t gone unnoticed??”

8. What is your favourite comfort food/meal?

“Probably pizza, Ryan Johnson can vouch for this after we had a pitstop in PizzaHut many years ago and really took advantage of the ‘all you can eat’ pizza offer.”

9. Do you have any strange phobias?

“Mistaken identity. Wouldn’t want anyone getting my little brother mixed up with The Real Fell.”

10. Have you ever accepted a dare that you have later regretted?

“I have been forced to straight arm pints in the past, which bar staff seem to have a particular disliking to.”

11. What are three things still left on your bucket list?
“Travel to more countries, Australia would be good and a safari in South Africa so a Lions tour would probably fit in well with these. Like Dows I would like to run a marathon, preferably quite flat so I can finish in a reasonable time. I also went to a few World Cup games in 2015 so would like to do that again with hopefully some better results.”

12. If you could have one superpower, what would you choose?

“Time travel. I’ve had too many fines for being late for the bus so this would be useful.”

Huge thank you to Felly for sending through his answers this week! He's chosen to nominate Will Morgan to be in the hot seat next week, so if there's something particular you want to find out, send in your questions!
