18. Michael Sanderson (1st XV Team Manager)

MEET A MEMBER MONDAY

Every Monday we post a club member profile, they may be a player, coach, team manager or committee member, to make it easier to put names to faces when you're at the club!

This week our star man is Mike Sanderson, 1st XV Team Manager and Penrith RUFC Life Member! The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike for all his efforts and hard work that he does for the club. He goes above and beyond for the 1st XV team and the club as a whole, as you will read just a few of his commitments to the club below.

Name: Michael Sanderson

Positions: "Winger as a boy, Centre as a man and current 1st team manager as an old man."

How many years at Penrith RUFC: Mike has been at Penrith RUFC since 1974. He played for the 1st XV from 1974-1994 and holds the club record of 581 appearances. He also held the club record for most tries in a game (5) for years until Jamie McNaughton scored 6 in 2017. Sandy was named as Player of the Year 1982/83 and held the title of 1st XV Team Captain in 1987/88 and 1989/90. He is also Chief Mini Bus Driver for Captain Beaty's Team. During his time at Penrith RUFC, Mike has produced the match programme inserts since mid 1990s and kept 1st XV statistics since 2003. As many of you will have seen, the match reports get posted every Sunday for the 1st XV match that weekend and this is thanks to Mike, he has been writing them since 2006. This is Mike’s 9th season as 1st Team Manager and he has been a ‘Life Member’ of Penrith RUFC since 2016.

What does he love most about Penrith RUFC: “Great facilities and everything in place for any player wanting to take their rugby seriously”.

What does he want to see Penrith RUFC achieve in the next season of rugby: “Finish this season with a shout of a play off place then... A great pre-season and start 2020/21 with a bang!”
